For the third consecutive year, David Clevenger is recognized by Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine as a “Pro to Know.”

CLEVELAND, March 24, 2009 – David Clevenger, vice president of Corporate United, the nation’s largest group purchasing organization, has been selected a Supply & Demand Chain Executive 2009 “Pro to Know.”

Supply & Demand Chain Executive, the executive’s user manual for successful supply and demand chain transformation, honors the industry’s leaders who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of supply and demand chain management through its annual “Pros to Know” list . . .

. . . Clevenger was also named a “Pro to Know” in 2007 and 2008 and is one of only 16 people to have received this recognition in each of the last three years.

Commentary:

I am particularly interested in the above announcement on a variety of levels. To begin, David Clevenger will be a member of a guest panel on my April 9th “PI Window on Business” Blog Talk Radio show (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Jon-Hansen). The shows theme (and title) asks the question “Is The Traditional Association Model Dead?”

This is an interesting question in the emerging Web 2.0 world as associations need to be more than a mere collection of names in which number count alone is the defining measurement of success. To be truly effective, the modern “globally synchronized” association needs to create and facilitate an environment in which an “active” and “timely” collaboration of ideas and services are the cornerstone of a relevant program.

Stagnate or even worse, declining membership numbers, are a reflection of a growing apathy by an increasingly diverse, younger and more “militant” group of professionals who want more than just a web site of information. Or as one PI Blog survey respondent so succinctly stated, “Where it once did, the value gained from the traditional association model can no longer compete for my attention. I need to collaborate bigger, faster, stronger – and at my convenience.”

This growing disenchantment has opened the door to organizations like Corporate United, whose area of practice extends well beyond the over-simplified versions of a collective buying group to being one in which the Resources, Intelligence and Tools “RIT” are in place to deliver real-world value on an on-demand basis. You only have to check out the Member Resources (http://www.corporateunited.com/messageboard/) and Knowledge Center (http://www.corporateunited.com/knowledge_center.aspx) sections on the Corporate United web site to see that they have laid the foundations for the perfect RIT amalgam. And they have done this within the framework of a model that is highly in-tune and therefore adaptive to the practical, real-world needs of a profession. A profession that is now being viewed by an enterprise’s hierarchy as a strategic advantage versus an adjunct function of the finance department.

David’s ongoing recognition is a reflection of his passion for the Corporate United vision. A vision which promises to have broad implications for buyers, sellers and yes, even associations.
