This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.
“We” means Hansen Models™ and Procurement Insights, operated by Jon W. Hansen, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
What we collect
When you register for an event or webinar. If you register for one of our events through LinkedIn or another registration form, we receive your name, email address, and the professional details you have chosen to make available on your profile, such as job title, company and location. LinkedIn provides this to us because you agreed to share it when you registered.
When you buy a report or engage us for work. We collect the contact and billing details needed to deliver what you bought and to invoice for it. Payments are processed by third-party payment providers. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
When you contact us. If you email us or complete a contact form, we keep what you send and our reply.
When you visit the website. Our site and its analytics tools record standard technical information: pages viewed, approximate location by country, referring site, browser and device type. This is aggregate traffic data and we do not use it to identify individual visitors.
Comments on the blog. If you comment on a post, we collect the data shown in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user agent string, which help with spam detection. Your name and comment are public; your email address is not published. An anonymized string created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to show your profile picture alongside your comment. Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Cookies. If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies, so you do not have to enter them again. Those last one year. If you log in as a site administrator, additional cookies store login and display preferences; these contain no data about ordinary visitors.
Embedded content from other sites. Posts may include embedded content such as videos or articles. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website, and those sites may collect data about you, set cookies and track your interaction with that content.
Why we collect it, and what we do with it
- To deliver what you asked for — the event you registered for, the report you bought, the material we said we would send, or a reply to your message.
- To tell you about related work — future sessions, labs, reports and posts. If you registered for an event, we may contact you about the next one.
- To improve what we publish — aggregate traffic data tells us which material is being read.
We do not use your information for anything else without asking you first.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your information. Not to vendors, not to advertisers, not to anyone.
- We do not rent or trade mailing lists.
- We do not share your details with the vendors or organizations we write about. Our assessments are independent, and nothing about who reads them travels back to the companies assessed.
Who else touches your data
We use third-party services to run the business, and your information passes through them only so they can provide that service to us:
- LinkedIn — event registration and hosting live sessions
- Website hosting and analytics providers — running the site and measuring traffic
- Automated spam detection — checking blog comments
- Email and payment providers — sending messages and processing purchases
Each of these has its own privacy policy governing what it does with data on its own account. We do not authorize any of them to use your information for their own marketing.
We may disclose information if required to do so by law.
How long we keep it
We keep registration and contact details for as long as they are useful for the purposes above, and we remove them when you ask us to. Comments and their metadata are retained with the post so that follow-up comments from the same person can be approved automatically, unless you ask us to remove them.
Your choices
You can ask us at any time to:
- tell you what we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete what we hold
- stop contacting you
Every email we send includes a way to unsubscribe. You can also write to us directly and we will act on it.
Children
This site and our services are intended for working professionals. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
