GM and Procter & Gamble Articles Stirs Both Controversy and Interest Overseas

The Shared Services & Outsourcing Network or SSON recently published a two-part article entitled The Trend Towards Vendor Consolidation examining the developing tendency among large-scale organizations towards reducing the number of vendors with whom their procurement departments have to deal. That article was prompted by a debate – still ongoing – between analysts and commentators regarding the rights and wrongs of specific instances of this trend.

My articles on both General Motors as well as Procter & Gamble regarding their respective approaches to supplier development and engagement practices generated considerable interest both in North America and beyond.

As a result, UK-based SSON contacted me asking if I would be willing to do an interview.  The following is the link to that interview “trends on vendor consolidation.”

The upcoming August 11th PI Window on Business broadcast – Intersecting Ideals: Why GMs Supply Chain is in a State of Ruin will expand on both the previous Procurement Insights articles and the SSON interview.

Joining me on the 11th to discuss the GM situation as well as its broader implications in terms of emerging supply chain practices is Bill Michels. Michels, a three time honoree as a Supply and Demand Chain Executive’s “Pros To Know,” is also co-author of the book “Transform Your Supply Chain.”
