Absolutely if objective views are to given. The question is really how would the journalists earn revenue? Certainly charging both ends can cause many potential challenges.
Your reference to a revenue model is both interesting and important Alun.
I had made reference to this very issue about the #factsmatter hashtag discussion regarding some of the reporting related to this weekend’s tragedy in Las Vegas. This is what I said;
You bring up an excellent point, Larry especially as it relates to the #factsmatter hashtag. But here is the thing, are we the public to blame for the decline in the quality of reporting over the past couple of years? While the following John Oliver LWT episode is not meant to add levity to a grave incident such as what took place in Las Vegas, it does speak directly to the FACT that “We The People” are the authors of our own misinformation angst. If we refuse to pay the price to keep our news sources independent and free how can we complain when the coverage is slanted towards the highest bidder? Here is the LWT link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_F5GxCwizc
This leads directly to your statement “how would the journalists earn revenue?”
While I cannot speak for anyone else, ninety-plus percent of my revenue is derived from outside of the procurement industry. Add into the equation that my income from the ten percent is for speaking services in which I am offering my independent insights into emerging trends and breaking news stories leaves me unencumbered by a financial dependence that could either influence or mute my coverage.
In short, if you cannot bite the hand that feeds you, look for another hand.
