Here is my response to another thought-provoking LinkedIn post by Kelly Barner regarding the meteoric rise and sensational collapse of Convoy Inc. Why should you care about the Convoy failure? Because it is another example of how we put tech ahead of the essential experience and expertise of the leaders behind the service provider logos and the heavy price we pay for doing so.
This is the resonating statement in your post, Kelly Barner:
“It is notable to me that while both Dan Lewis and Grant Goodale worked for Amazon before founding Convoy, neither worked directly in the supply chain. Dan Lewis was Amazon’s General Manager of New Shopping Experiences, and Grant Goodale was a software development manager.”
I wrote the article – Why it’s time for service provider leadership to step out from behind their organizations’ logos: https://bit.ly/3R2SdT9
Here is another one – Are you chasing solutions or solving problems? https://bit.ly/3FBnFRr
Over the past 40 years, I have seen a progressive evolution of technology. I love tech, but I have been saying this for decades – technology by itself fixes NOTHING! Even more disconcerting is that AI and learning algorithms are not new, nor is tech the silver bullet. Trust me when I say this – if we don’t solve problems first and then introduce tech, we will be having this same discussion twenty years from now – and by the way, the tech in 20 years will make today’s AI look like spreadsheets and email. I hope you’ll be able to pick up the nuanced reference to spreadsheets.
We don’t need maps with logos – we need to see the expertise of the leaders behind them.
Which is more important and telling – Picture A or Picture B? No pressure, but the answer you give will determine the success or failure of your initiative.
PICTURE A (Find SourceDay)
PICTURE B (FIND SOURCEDAY)
HINT: Read the background of the above two executives. What is the depth of their experience and expertise in the industry they seek to serve? Which will tell you more about SourceDay’s ability to understand and solve problems?
