Where have you gone, Larry Winget – Procurement’s version of Joe Dimaggio

Does procurement, more specifically ProcureTech, need a Larry Winget more than ever!

I have shared the virtual airwaves with Larry, and he even wrote a positive review of one of my books. In short, the gentleman who is known as the Pitbull of Personal Development, the star of a popular A&E television show, and the author of New York Times and Washington Post bestselling titles like “They Call It Work For A Reason” and “Grow A Pair” may be retired, but his presence lives on.

What’s the closest procurement has to a Larry Winget? I would have to say, Tom Mills, although Larry would be considered the shark with a bigger fin and sharper teeth.

Besides Tom, who just needs a little more of a “take-no-prisoners” edge, there is Michael Lamoureaux, who not only likes to poke the alligators but also likes to stick around and give them the raspberries.

“Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?
Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.”

Of course, there is Jason Busch’s subtle yet finessed wit—you should read some of his non-procurement-related articles. Like a skilled surgeon, with Jason, you don’t actually know how deep the cuts go until you stand up and your arms fall off. By the way, that is a compliment to his deft writing skills.

As much as I respect and enjoy reading Jason, Michael, and Tom’s work, Larry took personal development and owning your mistakes to a whole new level.

We need that now more than ever because hard times are ahead, and they will become even more difficult if practitioners and providers don’t stop drinking the AI Kool-Aid. If they can do that quickly, we might just be able to avert another 2000-type bubble burst.
