In a LinkedIn discussion stream, Fabian Lampe expressed the following concern: “What worries me is that nobody is actually getting better or feels confident to say we’ve got this.”

My Response:

Fabian Lampe, Which is why I raised the question: How can we get to 10X when we have had challenges getting through 1X to 9X? (NOTE: I am not physically attending DPW Amsterdam. However, I know many who are and have offered some insights publicly and privately. That remote access is why the title of today’s post is DPW Remote Dispatch: Understanding the Actual Bridge between AI and GenAI and Getting to 10X.)

– Here is a life story and lesson from personal experience in point form:

– In April 2018, when I was 59, I decided to run again—something I hadn’t done since my teens.

– In June of 2018, I ran my first 5K race and came in at a time of 27:23

– In August of 2018, I ran a 5K race and came in at 22:05

– In September of 2019, I ran a 10K race and came in at 48:55

– In August of 2020, I ran my fastest 1K time at 4:03

What would you say is the most important takeaway from the above?

It is what happened between 2018 and 2020. I went from sucking wind after 1K and praying for death after 3K in April 2018 and progressed because I put in the hard work. In short, I would have never progressed from a 27:23 to 22:05 5K to running 10K in 48:55 at 60 years old if I hadn’t put in the work, the effort, and the commitment.

Regardless of technology, the generational ProcureTech initiative failure rate has been around 80%. With so little progress over these past few decades, are we relying too much on technology to make us better rather than making the necessary effort ourselves to succeed?

What Do You Mean By Hard Work?

While hard work suggests a reasonable amount of effort, hard work also means “smart work.”

The following is a video interview I did this morning. It is about 30 minutes long, but watching it in its entirety may take effort, as you are probably juggling 5 or 10 other pressing requirements that demand your attention. Resist the 10 demands and invest the 30 minutes, and you will see the framework that will enable you—as a practitioner or provider—to ultimately move in the direction of a 3X, 5X, 8X, and then 10X accelerated procurement practice.
