“By 2028, 60% of supply chain digital adoption efforts will fail to deliver promised value due to insufficient investment in learning and development…” — from a keynote by Tom Enright at Gartner Supply Chain Symposium 2025 last week in Orlando.

MY TAKEAWAY

I will disagree with Tom Enright regarding the reason for the adoption failure rate of 60%.

After 40-plus years in high tech and procurement, the consistently high generational failure rate has more to do with what Pieter den Hamer and Leinar Ramos presented in a recent Gartner webinar. e.g., their “How Everything Fits Together” slide (see article below). – https://bit.ly/4dqQuQQ

The bottom line is that you should never lead with technology on any initiative, because technology is the last piece of the puzzle.
