Are Your Organization’s Current Policies and Practices a Threat to Your Supply Base?

“Do your suppliers perceive your current e-procurement strategy as a threat or a benefit to their organization?  While it is a simple question, the answer is one that will ultimately determine the success or failure of your e-procurement initiative, and in these challenging financial times even your business itself.”

Excerpt from “Preserving Supply Base Integrity During an Economic Downturn” Article (February 2009).

Talk about a loaded question!

As my regular readers will recall, this past fall I completed a six week, three continent tour that concluded with a keynote address to 400 purchasing professionals in Hampton, Virginia.

While I covered a number of topics on this tour, one of the most thought provoking sessions was based on the question . . . “is your current purchasing strategy a threat or a benefit to your supply base?”

Given the critical nature of the question, and of course the corresponding answer’s far reaching implications, I was surprised to find that the majority of those in attendance did not know.  Of those who did venture a response, many actually believed that their current practices were in fact a threat.

Against this backdrop software vendors might be reluctant to introduce possible solutions, even if said methods represented a breakthrough for the emerging globalized supply chain practice.

However, and through this article, I will share with you the evolution of the e-LYNXX method which enables buyers to take advantage of favorable market conditions to consistently achieve best value results without taking advantage of their supply base.
