According to one report, there are more than 2 million podcasts overall, airing over 48 million episodes (and counting).
Back when I launched the procurement industry’s very first podcast – PI Window on Business, in March 2009, the field wasn’t as crowded as it is now. Ten years and 900 shows later, even though I hung up the headphones and turned off the mic, I am still keenly interested in the medium today.
So, when I recently came across the Top 20 List for procurement podcasts, I was somewhat excited.
One of the twenty podcasts that offer a unique format is Procurement In 5-Minutes (PI5M).

The most recent PI5M segment was the 40th of their third season. Over the past three years, the host – Iain Campbell-McKenna, has welcomed senior industry thought leaders to the show to answer the most pressing questions of the day in – you guessed it, 5-minutes. They have even had the host from another Top 20 podcast as a guest on the show.
A Unique Format
So, what makes the PI5M podcast as popular as it has become?
Besides having great and knowledgeable guests answering thought-provoking questions, I believe that it is the show’s 5-minute format that appeals to industry professionals. Let’s face it, in today’s world, everyone seems to be short on time but long on their interest to know and learn more.
The ability to gain much-needed insights when we “take five” means that the show’s content is conveniently accessible, whether sitting at your desk or catching a flight at the airport.
A Great Line-up
I would, of course, be remiss if I did not recognize the other great podcasts on the list, including Philip Ideson’s Art of Procurement, Daniel Barnes’ World of Procurement and James Meads’ Digital Procurement, Unwrapped.
