Here is an excerpt from a LinkedIn post by Jose Bustillio that caught my attention this morning:
I stepped into the room. The energy was great! Everyone was dressed to impress, and the music? It was loud, but the kind that makes you want to move. You know that feeling, right? Lol.
I couldn’t help but start to dance a little, but just discreetly, lol. I love dancing, and it was too good to ignore.
I said hello to everyone and sat down.
The waitress came over. She was beautiful. I ordered my go-to drink: an Old Fashion. There’s something about it that always hits just right.
Then, the networking began. I made my way around the room, introducing myself. “I work in Procurement,” I said.
“I don’t think I know much about Procurement. What is it?” he replied. I could not help but smile 🤗
In the discussion stream, Michael Shields commented:
Wait, so what was your response?
Here is my response:
What is procurement?
Do you see that phone someone is using to text? How about that bag of groceries they are carrying back to their car? What about the light that comes on when you flip a switch in your house? What about that prescription you just picked up at the pharmacy or watching that hockey game your child is playing?
None of that is possible without procurement and the supply chain.
What do you say when someone asks you what you do as a procurement professional?
