Surprising Poll Results On Procurement’s Influence

In a recent poll for the Purchasing & Global Supply Chain Professionals LinkedIn Group, I asked the following question: What influence does the procurement department have in selecting a ProcureTech provider and solution?

I am not often surprised by poll responses, but this one caught me off guard.

SOME CONTEXT

Going back to 1983, the purchasing/procurement department had virtually no say in what technology platform their company implemented. For the most part, we were an afterthought that would have to wait in a long line of competing departments before being told the equivalent of “you’ll get nothing and like it!”

Looking back, is it any wonder why we embraced and continue to embrace spreadsheets?

Fast forward 42 years, and today’s poll asks when it comes to selecting and implementing a ProcureTech solution provider’s platform, how much say and influence do today’s procurement professionals have in the decision-making process?
