Have you ever seen the movie Groundhog Day, where Bill Murray’s character is locked in a perpetual loop in which he is forced to relive the same day over and over and over again?
Eventually Murray’s character realizes that he can actually learn from his experiences and use them to both anticipate and respond to the inevitable changes. In short, when you know what to look for, the outcome is never in doubt.
Well this is kind of the same thing in relation to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s eVA initiative, which was just recognized by Supply & Demand Chain Executive as one of Best projects that navigate the complex waters of today’s complex supply chain.
Since I began covering the Commonwealth’s success with eVA back in August of 2007, it was clear to me from the get go that they were on to something – especially in terms of how the public sector should approach the implementation of an eProcurement platform. So while I am not surprised as it was always a matter of when as opposed to if the broader supply chain world would recognize Virginia’s accomplishment, I am left to wonder why more public sector organizations have not emulated the eVA approach. Hopefully this too will be a matter of time.
In the meantime, congratulations to the entire eVA team on a job not only done well, but in relation to the public sector, done better than anyone else!
