How do you know you are really “ready” to attend a live webinar?

Yet another webinar. I remember the first webinar I did was in early 2005. Webex was the platform, and there were some initial challenges, such as getting through company firewalls. Not only was the drawbridge up but the entire castle was locked down, as many organizations were unfamiliar with the technology.

Today, webinars are as common as wheat in a wheatfield. Obviously, they were invaluable tools during the pandemic and social distancing era. However, with the reemergence of in-person, live conferences, solution providers must “up their virtual game,” so to speak, to stand out.

Conversely—and I will discuss this point in greater detail shortly—attendees must be willing to up their game to get the most out of a webinar.

Upcoming BCG Webinar

Here is the outline for the upcoming BCG webinar titled The Price is Right: How Mintec’s partner BCG is optimizing cost, pricing & promotions for retailers:

Unlock the Secrets of Retail Success: Advanced Pricing Strategies, Cost and Revenue Optimization

In today’s fiercely competitive retail landscape, finding the perfect pricing strategy aligned with cost management is the key to unlocking value for consumers while driving revenue and fostering strong supplier relationships. But how do retailers navigate this complex terrain? How can they leverage data effectively to control costs, maximize margins, and introduce new products to their customers?

Join Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Mintec for an exclusive webinar where industry experts unveil cutting-edge techniques and real-world case studies to empower you with the knowledge and tools you need to thrive in today’s dynamic market.

Honestly, is that enough to motivate or entice you to register and then be one of the 50% to actually attend?

Why Would You Attend?

Which one of the following three excerpts will influence your decision to register:

  • unlocking value for consumers while driving revenue and fostering strong supplier relationships
  • leverage data effectively to control costs, maximize margins, and introduce new products to their customers
  • industry experts unveil cutting-edge techniques and real-world case studies to empower you with the knowledge and tools you need to thrive in today’s dynamic market

For me to attend, I need something more than creatively-written prose of the familiar terminology that everyone uses. I even tried the ChatGPT prompt at the end of the post for more in-depth information to determine if it’s worth investing 60 minutes of my time.

Here is what came out of the AI world:

A well-aligned pricing strategy in retail is crucial. It directly impacts consumer perception, demand, and profitability. Retailers must consider various factors, including cost, competition, and customer value, to optimize pricing and achieve business success.

Beautifully but mind-numbingly written, it prompts me to ask: What will you tell me that’s new, something I don’t already know?

Why You (And I) Should Attend

The number one rule for any meeting – webinars included is to know as much, if not more, about the subject matter as the person on the other side of the table. In this case, you must know as much, if not more, than the panel of experts. What this does is put you in the driver’s seat of how you will discern and use whatever information and insights are delivered during the 60 minutes.

When I write and moderate webinars, I ensure that the audience is as actively engaged in the discussion as the panel. In short, it is not a one-way conversation. You have to be prepared to question everything and everyone because dialogue benefits everyone.

Here is what I wrote in the comment section of the Webinar post on LinkedIn.

Over the years, I have written extensively about the retail industry. Here are a few examples of the breadth of the challenges in the retail world:

2007 – Double Marginalization and the Decentralized Supply Chain
2022 – Where’s The Beef! Shrinkflation’s Impact on Procurement’s Value Proposition
2024 – What is the “one thing” all successful negotiators know
https://bit.ly/4c3LKi9
2024 – As a procurement professional, what do these three graphs tell you?
2019 – SOS: How can the supply chain make GOOD food more affordable for the masses?
2024 – Where does food waste occur most in the supply chain?

The above is just for the retail food industry. Over the past three decades, the focus of my research – including detailed case studies on companies such as Tesco, Walmart, Target, and PepsiCo from the perspective of the consumer, retailer, and suppliers is one of the reasons I am looking forward to the above webinar.

I am ready to get the most out of the 60 minutes – are you also READY?
