Are Today’s C-Suite Executives “Horse Carriage Drivers?”

“Michael, you’re like the horse carriage driver mocking the Benz Patent-Motorwagen for its noise compared to your nice quiet horse. The horse is great.. until it’s not. The carriage still exists, and the driver will still exist for a while (and take on more responsibilities), but the motor is changing.” – Pierre Mitchell, LinkedIn Comment

Pierre Mitchell that is an interesting analogy. I like analogies.

It made me think of many things, but one question popped into my head:

What percentage of procurement professionals use spreadsheets? – A survey by SpendHQ and Procurious revealed that 73% of procurement teams still track metrics using spreadsheets and other inefficient tools.

What percentage of CFOs and finance use spreadsheets? – Recent studies indicate that approximately 58% of finance leaders still use spreadsheets as their primary automation tool, despite the increasing availability of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).

What percentage of CIOs and IT dept. use spreadsheets? – A survey conducted by Apptio, an IBM Company revealed that nearly 50% of CIOs use spreadsheets to manage multi-million dollar IT budgets.

What percentage of CEOs and executives use spreadsheets? – A survey by Robert Half and the FINANCIAL EXECUTIVES RESEARCH FOUNDATION INC found that 63% of U.S. executives reported their companies use Excel as the primary tool for budgeting and planning.

Referencing your analogy, are you suggesting that most executives are horse carriage drivers like Michael Lamoureux? Or are they tired of hearing the roaring engine of yet another high-tech breakthrough that hasn’t delivered the expected results over the past several decades?
