Initially, I was excited that Bertrand Malteverne would provide his take on Market Dojo.

After all, I have been covering the company since December 2013, and as you know, I am a big believer in tracking trends and progress based on firsthand experience and research. After more than 40 years in high-tech and procurement, contextual history is a valuable teacher.

Unfortunately, the access I was given was limited to the following generalized overview (see below). To access the assessment, I would need to pay a membership or subscription fee.

WHAT IS YOUR ROI INSIGHTS

What I am going to do is let you decide what meaningful access is worth by sharing with you my Level 1 of 5 Levels RAM 2025 6-Model assessment of Market Dojo, with access to the proprietary Procurement Insights archives.

Yes, Levels 2 through 5 do require a fee, but that is because I take you to an unprecedented depth. This includes utilizing the Hansen Fit Score, based on the Metaprise, Agent-based, and Strand Commonality models, which dramatically increase ProcureTech selection and implementation success rates.

So, based on Procurement Insights’ proprietary archives, here is an example of what you will receive with Level 1 coverage in the way of information and insight:

The above is a preliminary Hansen Fit Score comparison for MarketDojo benchmarked against ORO Labs, Zip, Ivalua, Zycus, and SAP Ariba. Each provider is scored across the three core dimensions of the Hansen Fit Model—Metaprise, Agent-Based, and Strand Commonality—with an overall average Fit Score calculated.

Here’s an enhanced timeline and analysis of MarketDojo’s progression from 2014–2025, including a Level 1 Strategic Assessment:

Timeline & Milestones

2014

  • Category Dojo launch: MarketDojo introduced Category Dojo—a wizard‑based tool that guides buyers through category analysis, sourcing strategy, and projected savings, interfacing seamlessly with e‑Auction events. It received strong praise for its DIY model, intuitive interface, and pay‑per‑event flexibility.

2018–2019

  • SaaS & feature expansion: Adopted cloud-native model on Google Cloud, bolstered by significant sovereign‑wealth investment .
  • Advanced toolset: Released a suite including Innovation Dojo, SIM Dojo (supplier onboarding), Quick Quotes, Contract Dojo, SRM Dojo, and Savings Tracker.
  • Market traction: Over £10 billion in goods/services sourced via their platform by March 2019.

2022

  • Acquisition: Esker acquired MarketDojo, integrating its sourcing capabilities with Esker’s P2P offering.
  • Joint positioning: Under Esker’s umbrella, MarketDojo evolved as part of an S2P ecosystem, emphasizing sourcing + P2P workflows, with early AI enhancements like generative questionnaires.

2025

  • Current state:
    • Based in Stonehouse (UK), continuing global service.
    • Now Esker-led, offering AI-augmented sourcing features and embedded analytics .
    • Strong collaboration ecosystem: UK academia, G-Cloud framework, multiple modules, and consistent investment.

Hansen Fit Score Assessment

Although there’s no publicly disclosed numeric Hansen Fit Score for MarketDojo, we can infer alignment across the three dimensions—Metaprise, Agent-Based, and Strand Commonality—as follows:

  1. Metaprise (Market positioning & maturity)
    • Strengths: Good product-market fit in mid-market/niche e-Sourcing, strong innovation via cloud and AI enhancements, significant deal volume through Esker.
    • Challenges: Still smaller scale vs. enterprise-tier providers like Coupa or Ariba.
  2. Agent-Based (Capability adaptability & AI integration)
    • Strengths: Historically agile with new modules (Category, Innovation, AI-driven features), no-sales-test-drive self-service model.
    • Challenges: Late to AI adoption compared to larger peers, but Esker’s backing accelerates this.
  3. Strand Commonality (Integration & ecosystem embedding)
    • Strengths: Tightly integrated within Esker’s S2P suite, Google Cloud–hosted, compliant (e.g., G-Cloud), embedded in academic and public procurement frameworks.
    • Challenges: May need further deep ERP/enterprise ecosystem integration to compete hard.

Estimated Positioning: High–Mid in niche/mid-market agile providers in 2014–2018 (strong Agent-Based and Strand, mid Metaprise). By 2025, Metaprise strength likely rose as a result of Esker acquisition and ecosystem play. Overall Hansen Fit Score for MarketDojo would now be moderately high, indicating strong alignment and predicting likely implementation success (supported by Hansen research showing high-fit providers are 2–3× more successful).

Summary Chart: MarketDojo’s Evolution

Final Assessment

MarketDojo has matured from a lean, agile niche provider with strong product-market fit into an integrated element within Esker’s broader S2P ecosystem. Their positioning—particularly when assessed through the Hansen Fit framework—has strengthened significantly:

  • Metaprise: Raised by acquisition and ecosystem scale.
  • Agent-Based: Inherently agile with AI and modular innovation.
  • Strand Commonality: Strong integration within Esker, cloud infrastructure, academia, and government frameworks.

Overall, their current Fit Score likely places them in the top tier of agile/mid-market niche ProcureTech providers, with a high probability of implementation success and ROI realization.

FINAL RAM 2025 LEVEL 1 CONCLUSION

Based on available qualitative and quantitative data, MarketDojo’s Hansen Fit Score as of 2025 can be reasonably assessed in the 8-9 range (on the 10-point Hansen scale), reflecting strong solution fit, rapid ROI, and positive market acceptance. This qualitative assessment is supported by consistent performance across the three Hansen dimensions. However, it lacks the methodological rigor of an official Hansen evaluation (which is provided through RAM 2025 Levels 2 through 5). That being said, this is a solid foundational starting point that warrants further direct communication with the ProcureTech solution provider.
