If AI doesn’t transform organizations, then who does?

After reading the recent Gartner post on LinkedIn, the following two thoughts came to mind:

  • A picture is worth a thousand words.

So, let’s look at the picture to which I am referring:

Now, through the lens of these two points, read Gartner’s post:

TODAY’S TAKEAWAY

How can one company – one multi-billion-dollar company – be so misguided in its understanding of how AI really works?

Autonomous business assumes AI can “sense what’s happening and independently make decisions.”

But AI can’t ask “What time of day do orders come in?” without human judgment guiding the inquiry.

The picture shows what actually happens: AI apologizes and learns when humans provide the context, domain knowledge, and judgment AI lacks.

Gartner’s autonomous business vision? It’s capability stack thinking that ignores 27 years of proof: technology doesn’t fail, organizations do – because readiness wasn’t assessed first.

DND 1998: Agent-based system achieved 97.3% accuracy not because it was autonomous, but because we addressed “we don’t track that” gaps BEFORE deployment.

AI doesn’t transform organizations. Humans with systematic readiness assessment do.
