P.S. – The “time of day” insight from 1998 led to 97.3% procurement accuracy over 7 years and a $12M acquisition by a public company. That’s the ROI of developing talent with systemic thinking capabilities.
Two of Sheena’s statements in the above post by Shaun Syversten stood out:
“So much of DPW, rightfully so, is focused on the incredible technical innovation in our space. But I’m most interested in the people.”
“But how are we looking at systemic thinking now, to blow up traditional processes and create new operating models that fit today’s world? How are we developing the talent who knows how to do that?”
With the first statement, she nails it – with a clever turn of diplomacy. After over 40 years in high-tech and procurement, I have witnessed numerous cycles of DPW-type technologies and eras, which may make me a little more direct.
However, her follow-up is the real exclamation point at the end of her statement.
Before I share my response to the above post, take a minute, if you haven’t already, to watch the following video. Then, read my response.
Over the years, I have made the statement: If we don’t adopt a people-led agent-based model and continue to force-feed a technology-led equation-based model, ten years from now we will look back at today’s AI breakthroughs with the same dismissive attitude we now have for 8086 processors, dot matrix printers, and 2800 baud modems.
I was invited to participate in this roundtable discussion, but unfortunately, I was unable to attend. However, if you are attending DPW 2025, this should be your first and primary must-attend session because what is being discussed will make the difference between ProcureTech selection and implementation success or failure.
