I’m pleased to announce that Don Osborn has joined the Hansen Fit Score Advisory Team as Supply Chain & Global Operations Advisor.

Don and I have been in dialogue for some time—he’s been engaging with the theoretical foundations of my work, particularly the connections between my 1998-2008 agent-based models and modern AI frameworks.

That perspective revealed something important: Don doesn’t just understand supply chain management. He understands the organizational dynamics that determine whether transformations succeed or become another failed implementation.

His credentials:

38+ years in global supply chain and procurement leadership

Former IBM Global Services: Managed $15.6 billion AUD annual spend with 150+ team members

$45 million in annual cost savings through strategic sourcing and process transformation

Led procurement for IBM’s Blue Gene supercomputer program (directly relevant to complex technology implementations)

Delivered $26.9 million in operating cost savings over three consecutive years ($7M, $8.6M, $13.2M)

He’s managed teams of 120+ professionals across procure-to-pay outsource operations in Australia. He’s led global supply chain management supporting 1,500 outsourced professionals across 45 international team members. He’s worked across industries from offshore oil platforms to the world’s fastest computer systems.

Most importantly: He’s lived the gap between compelling strategies and organizational readiness to execute them.

Why This Matters for HFS

Hansen Fit Score measures 23 organizational characteristics that determine whether procurement transformation succeeds or joins the 80% that fail.

The framework emerged from tracking 180+ implementations over 27 years. But frameworks need practitioners who can demonstrate how they apply across supply chain complexities, global operations, and organizational scales.

Don has:

  • Built and managed billion-dollar procurement operations
  • Led cross-border teams across multiple continents
  • Delivered measurable value ($45M annual savings, $135M+ PO savings)
  • Integrated complex technology procurements (supercomputing to enterprise systems)
  • Managed outsourced operations at scale (1,500+ professionals)

He knows where strategies succeed and where they stall. His recent observation—”Person was the answer or people the factor, not the technology”—is exactly what HFS measures.

The Advisory Team Role

As Supply Chain & Global Operations Advisor, Don will apply Hansen Fit Score methodology across the sectors where he has deep expertise: technology procurement, global supply chain management, and large-scale outsourced operations.

His focus:

  • Apply and ensure alignment with HFS’s 5 categories and 23 characteristics in global supply chain transformation assessments
  • Assess organizational dynamics and readiness using the framework’s governance, stakeholder alignment, change absorption capacity, cultural readiness, and execution capability dimensions
  • Deploy Hansen Fit Score in complex, multinational environments—demonstrating how readiness factors manifest differently across geographies, organizational scales, and supply chain complexities

His GeoSymmetry philosophy aligns perfectly with HFS: “People and Technology succeeding in ALL areas” – This is exactly what organizational readiness assessment enables.

Finally, as part of the Hansen Fit Score Advisory Team, Don will work with other members to ensure ongoing stakeholder alignment during periods of change in market conditions.

His perspective will strengthen what makes HFS different: it’s not consultant theory—it’s pattern recognition from practitioners who’ve built, transformed, and scaled global operations.

Welcome to the team, Don Osborn. Looking forward to your insights as we deploy HFS globally.
