ChatGPT’s Harshest Critic Is . . . ChatGPT

My wife Jennifer and I have been together for more than 23 years. We have four kids, ages 12, 14, 16, and 19. Did I mention we have two dogs, two gerbils, two guinea pigs, and a bearded dragon named Titan?

Meet Jennifer – if you are planning a move to Ottawa, you now know who to call 😉

Besides the joys of everyday life through all these years, Jennifer has heard me endlessly talk about procurement, algorithms, and AI. As we were both working away on our laptops early this morning, she sent me the following: She said, “I typed the following into ChatGPT: Write as a ChatGPT expert copywriter explaining the pros and cons of implementing ChatGPT as a service provider for end users. Add in procurement.”

While you can type in the same question to get the entire answer, here are the three excerpts that stood out to me from the pros, cons, procurement, and summary output:

One of the pros of ChatGPT – Consistency and Accuracy: ChatGPT delivers consistent responses based on the data it has been trained on, ensuring that users receive accurate and reliable information.

One of the cons of ChatGPT – Dependence on Training Data: The effectiveness of ChatGPT depends on the quality and relevance of its training data. If the data is outdated or biased, it can affect the accuracy of responses.

Procurement and ChatGPT – Customization and Integration: Evaluate how easily ChatGPT can be customized to meet specific business needs and how well it integrates with existing systems.

Summary – Implementing ChatGPT as a service provider can offer significant benefits in efficiency and user experience, but careful consideration of the associated costs, quality, and security aspects is crucial for successful deployment and long-term satisfaction.

Jennifer then asked ChatGPT the following additional two questions – which you can do to see the respective answers:

“As an expert procurement professional, how do you implement ChatGPT within a business model.”

Why do Most ChatGPT Initiatives Fail: Key Pitfalls in Implementation

My Takeaway: Who knows ChatGPT better than ChatGPT? According to its assessment of itself, ChatGPT is only as good as the data it is trained on and receives. In the early 1980s, we worded it a little differently—”garbage in, garbage out.” From a procurement standpoint, I am kind of at a loss regarding what exactly the “Generative” part of “Generative AI” actually is. Jennifer is wondering the same thing. 😉

“These are some uses for natural language processing. ChatGPT is a form of generative AI — a tool that lets users enter prompts to receive humanlike images, text, or videos that are created by AI.” – Tech Target
