“Agentic AI is closely related to agent-based modeling, where systems are modeled as agents that act based on a set of rules. In AI, agents move beyond simulation and into real-world application, where they act autonomously to achieve specified goals.” – ChatGPT
We are an industry of acronyms and, at times, subtle and not-so-subtle semantics, so it was only a matter of time before the next big industry buzzword or term would pop into our collective conscience. However, at these points, we come to the crossroads of repeating past mistakes or actually blazing the right trail to success.
Here is a post by Globality that popped up last evening in my LinkedIn stream. I want you to read it, then closely examine the Gartner graphic, and really think about what is being said.
“Gartner names AI agents such as Glo the No.1 Strategic Technology Trend for 2025 saying they are “powerful new tools to vanquish productivity, security, and innovation obstacles”. Being On The Right Track Versus Staying On The Right Track
“I am often asked what I think about the “evergreen” evolution of high-tech computing. My answer has always been the same – it’s not about the technology but the problems the technology solves. In other words, as great as the tech may be, it means nothing if it doesn’t come after people and process understanding.
When organizations make the mistake of leading with technology, they are bending their people and processes around an equation-based model approach in which the tech is the driver for success.
When you lead with people and process understanding – an agent-based model, technology moves from a functional driver to a problem-solving tool that streamlines and delivers efficiencies and tangible results.”
Now, watch the following video regarding an agent-based model’s actual, real-world utilization.
Do you see the seemingly subtle yet critical differences between using a technology-led Agentic AI model and a human-led Agent-based model?
Suppose we as an industry don’t and continue to lead using an Agentic AI model. In that case, we will repeat the same pattern of technology-led implementation outcomes and have the same discussion regarding initiative failure rates 10 years from now as we are having today.
