Why A 2004 Quote Resonates in 2025

Those of you who have been reading this blog over the past 18 years know that my archives are extensive regarding the subject matter I have covered. Ironically, I have a reasonably good recall of what I have written. I say reasonably because occasionally, one or two past articles escape my memory.

I was reminded of this yesterday.

Being Quoted

In a discussion stream on LinkedIn, Justin Goldston, PhD, shared the following screenshot regarding my post – Can Agentic AI save procurement?

As I read the text, it sounded strangely familiar, so I wrote the following reply:

Then, It Hit Me!

Did you note the hammer image associated with the article I referenced in my comment (see above)?

I then looked at the image at the top of Justin Goldston’s comment (see below).

What do you see in the yellow circle?

Now I know why it sounded so familiar. What is most encouraging regarding the decentralization of the procurement function and the importance of using an agent-based model is that what I talked about in 2004 is still – if not more relevant in 2025.

The self-learning algorithms within a nascent AI framework developed using an agent-based model in 1999 are the most direct path to leveraging AI, Generative AI, and Agentic AI in 2025 to solve problems in procurement and the supply chain.
